Who qualifies for CDCP

According to the Government of Canada, you must meet all four of these requirements:

  • No access to dental insurance. That includes coverage through work, a pension, a family member's plan, a professional or student organization, or a health spending account, even if you don't use it.
  • Taxes filed. You (and your spouse or common-law partner) filed a tax return in Canada for the previous year.
  • Income under $90,000. Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.
  • Canadian resident. You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes.

Applications for the 2026–2027 benefit period are open. There's no fee to apply. Beware of scams asking for banking or credit card details.

What CDCP covers

  • Preventive and diagnostic: exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride and sealants
  • Basic: fillings, root canals and gum treatment
  • Major: crowns and posts, removable dentures and oral surgery
  • Sedation: some types of sedation (not offered at our office)

Some services, such as crowns and partial dentures, need the plan's approval first (preauthorization). Orthodontic services aren't currently covered.
